Boating_071113_thumb.jpgPublic Safety: Sailing

Sailors should be aware of dangers from overhead power lines on shores and around lakes. Overhead lines are easy to forget when manoeuvring a vessel at a launch site, at home on the drive or towing on the roads.

If your boat is in contact with an electricity power line or within five metres of a damaged overhead line, move away as quickly as possible. Stay away until the electricity company or emergency services arrive.

If someone is on the boat, they must stay on the boat. Climbing down on to the ground could be fatal.
