Decentralised Energy
The challenge of distributed generation and decentralised energy is particularly focused on the networks. The need to accommodate these new technologies requires a radical and innovative development of the network infrastructure. We will need a system that can connect different and diverse energy providers both to each other and to the National Grid.
All this must be achieved while continuing to develop more centralised and (increasingly) remote generation, whether nuclear, wind, or clean coal. Creating a network that can connect these fundamentally differing generation technologies will be down to our industry.
As a result, we need a regulatory framework to ensure we can meet this challenge. ENA gave evidence to the Commons Trade & Industry Select Committee on 31st October 2006 and welcomes the key networks points made in their Report published on 30th January 2007 (see our consultation repsonses).
For technical information about these issues, please see the distributed generation engineering pages.
